Looks like this pub is being fully restored to its former glory
Few Pubs in Hull can claim to have such an
avid bunch of enthusiasts, the pub must be known by everybody in
Hull. Even though they may not frequent the business, I think Hull
people regard it as part of their Heritage. Indeed, take a look at
the bottom of the page at the User's views, to see the reaction
when thing were not going too well, and the joy at the new
improvements, I think they can say more about the pub than we can.
The White Harte can only be reached from an alleyway that runs
between Silver Street and Bowlalley Lane. It carries its history with a certain self-consciousness,
but I suppose that if you'd been around since the 1550s, you might too.
The White Harte's entry into the latter half of the second
millennium was secured in 1969, when, subject to certain conditions, some women were allowed into
one room. These days, I am reliably informed they even have ladies' loos.
This is a lovely place. With the Black Boy, it epitomises all that
is best about the tradition of the English pub. Nooks, crannies, and lots of wood that last saw sap
half-a-thousand years ago. Oh yes, and some very nice beer...
It also provides a variety of different areas in which you can
drink.
These include a very comfortable lounge (photo, right) on the
second floor, above the restaurant.
The White Harte now boasts Hull's first "all weather beer
garden", complete with light-sensitive retractable umbrellas and patio heaters; and
"Hull's first outdoor quiz night".
Few pubs can claim a genuine place in history. Ye Olde White Harte
certainly can. It was in an upstairs room here - now known as the Plotting Parlour - that in 1642
Sir John Hotham resolved to bar King Charles from the town. This act triggered the English Civil
War and, in due course, lost Sir John his head. Maybe if he'd just decided to have another pint
instead...

quality and selection since the departure of the previous landlord is a tragedy of Wagnerian
proportions. Also, the Gent's toilets are worthy of Central Asia."

former times. The return from exile of Brian & Jenny

The good times are here again.

ye olde white harte, he now not only hold's the licence but owns
the building also.
Mr Cottingham has refurbished the tatty old red seats to a
beautiful dark green superb fabric, he has routed out old staff
members and brought them back behind the bar, the cooks have been
brought back to work from retirement for a few days a week . He
has some tasty guest ales on each week such as, hull breweries
governor, old speckled hen, pedigree, black sheep brewery mild the
list is endless.
The customers are returning in their droves pleased to see the
good management back in town, the gent's has been decorated so
they are no longer worthy of central Asia. so the food , beer,
atmosphere and friendly welcome and excellent service from the
staff is back. thank goodness as the place went to rack and ruin
over the past four years without decent management.
