Mansfield Brewery has taken advantage of the Silvester's city
centre postion to take it several large steps upmarket. The Hull Cheese was renowned far and wide,
but its atmosphere and the volume of its music was not always designed to attract the casual
passer-by.
The Hull Cheese (old photo on the right) is no more. In its place
you find the Silvester Arms. This opened in May 1997. Inside it has been opened out and extensively
converted at considerable apparent expense, with new areas available for public use . These include, if you lift your eyes from the bar, a mezzanine area
including a very comfortable library.
The effect is extremely attractive: and we can recommend their 99p
breakfasts (though it's a shame they no longer sell them from 8am).
