Lloyds No 1 in one of the newest arrivals in Hull. It subtitles its menu "an interesting balance"; and that's not a bad description.Interior Photo

Lloyds opened at the beginning of December 1998 after a £1.5m conversion of an old Barclays Bank. Inside, you find a huge spacious area on two floors that, although at first seeming a little stark and minimalist, rapidly grows on you. It rapidly grew on us, anyway. One very interesting feature is the re-use of the old bank offices around the outside of the main area as small semi-private rooms.

It's clear that Lloyds is aiming for two quite distinct markets. At lunchtimes it's aiming to be a wine bar catering for the offices in the area. In the evenings it's "the place to be" for the younger market: and while we'd never actually queue to get into any pub, Lloyds is proving justifiably popular.
