In the early days of Hullpub we asked whether the Institute really
was a pub. Rest assured, it is: and it is also home to a disco and an excellent source of
food.
For the historically minded, the Institute was built as a doctor's
house in 1842. Some time later it was taken over by the Church and used by them until 1960. It
spent the next thirty years of its life boarded-up before being opened in its current incarnation
in 1991. In its first five years as a house of entertainment, no fewer than two million visitors
passed though the front door into its splendid main hallway.
The interior defies description. It almost borders on the garish;
but works very well, helping create a really interesting atmosphere. If you want to know exactly

of the the real thing...
