This, the old commercial heart of the city was centrally placed
between the River Hull wharves to the east and the City Walls to the west.
This is reflected in the higher quality and larger size of
buildings found here. This area also also boasts a grander scale (and larger number) of pubs; some
of which find themselves reusing old commercial buildings. The contrasts available here can best be
shown across the few short yards separating Ye Olde White Harte and the Mint. Both are splendid
examples of their type, and both are well worth a visit: yet they are utterly different in every
way.
The newest developments in the area broaden the range of choice
still further by introducing the concept of the Cafe-Bar. Both Lloyds No 1 and Jaz fall into this
category.
