The River Hull is bridged at a number of points within the
confines of the city; yet it still forms a significant physical barrier. Cross the Drypool Bridge
and you might to be in a different city. There are pubs aplenty here; but you need to look for them
among the more recent commercial development and industrial estates.
The White Hart differs from the others discussed here by being on
the west bank; but any venture beyond the river will probably need to start or finish in the
splendour of its bar, so it seems sensible to include it here.
This is one of the few places where your progress between one pub
and another can be blocked by a lifting bridge. However desperate your thirst, though, and however
biting the east wind, we recommend you take note of any warning lights and klaxons on the bridge.
The beer will taste all the better for the wait...
Also included is a new pub - The Timber Dock - on the Victoria
Dock development south of Garrison Road. If you thought that new housing developments are always
little-box-like, come and see this one: as well as bringing life back to a previously deserted
quarter of the city, it could change your views of modern housing forever.
