Why have a street called "The Land of Green Ginger"? Why
not? Whatever the reason, they have one in Hull, and the George is in it.
The George is a heady mix of dark wood panelling, open fires and
good beer that acts as a magnet for anyone with a love of all that is best in pubs. So if you want
to get to the bar, arrive early...
They also boast what must be the most generous gaming machine in
Hull. It once coughed up enough to fund an entire evening's beer. But if it doesn't work like that
for you, we really don't want to hear about it...
Finally, no description of the George should be complete without
mentioning that it houses what is reputed to be the smallest window in Hull (see photo, below: the
window is ringed in red). The story goes that the window, which is adjacent to the gateway used by
the old mail coaches, was used as a lookout by those responsible for caring for the horses.
