We described the Stone House as "a traditional city centre
single room pub with lots of local photographs on the walls and a taste for loud
music."
Now you see the same traditional city centre pub with a livid
outer coat of a sort of pinkish purple paint:
enough to make one middle-aged lady in the street exclaim (it
helps for this bit if you know the Hull accent) "Oh no, what a mess". On the other hand,
it's not as if the old frontage (see right) was anything much to write home about.
And at least the new colour scheme on the outside gives a
reasonable idea of what to expect inside. Imagine an explosion in a paint factory; with all the old
fixtures and fittings being decked out in orange, lime green, red, or purple.
Were the seventies really like this? They've at least got one
period detail right: Flares is a real-beer-free zone.
