Now renamed The Courts Bar, the pub
originally named The Varsity opened at the end of July 1997.
 Situated in the old Imperial Chambers Building and nearly
opposite the George, the Varsity marked another Camerons development in Hull. The interior is
designed to offer a "back to basics" approach, with lots of natural material used in the
conversion. We've found ourselves suggesting that more than one pub in this Crawl is bigger than it
appears from the outside: well the Courts Bar actually feels rather smaller than seems likely before
you enter.
 Return visits since have showed the Courts
Bar to be bedding in well,
with the atmosphere developing nicely. Meanwhile, it would be interesting to know if there are any
stories of ghosts in the upstairs corridor near the toilets.
Finally, it's worth noting that the quality of the beer on offer
can be judged from the way the Varsity made its way straight into CAMRA's 1998 Good Beer Guide
(and stayed there for the 1999 edition).
