The bar looks to be unchanged in over 20 years; but the lounge
seems bigger. Very much a locals' pub; and very much a pub of two halves. While the bar is dark
wood and smoke; the lounge is very much blue rinse and coffee...

As an update to your information no smoking is now requested in the lounge during meal service. I
have also asked the landlord to supply a little of the pub's interesting history."
"The Function Room at the rear of the premises is now known
as The Old Brewery, because that is what it once was. During the 1880s the brewery was
built by Henry & William Thurloe who were brewers, maltsters and cab proprietors and as the pub
had its own Coach House and Stables, it really was self-contained to cater for the drinking
fraternity."
"However it would appear to have been short-lived because the
new brewery was sold to the Hull Brewery Co. Ltd. late in 1892. How long it remained as a working
brewery after that has not yet been ascertained but it was this building which is now used for its
Jazz and Folk Nights."
"The Folk Music is provided by the Cottingham Folk Club and
it is open every Wednesday night from 8 P.M.. until closing time. Everyone is welcome and can 'have
a go' on Singers' nights which are at least every other week."
"The Jazz is traditional Dixieland and New Orleans style of
music and is provided mainly by musicians from East Yorkshire. Everyone is welcome on Fridays from
8 P.M.. and it only costs a quid to get in. Extremely good value with a bar thrown in."
