The Burlington is living proof of the old adage that you shouldn't always judge on appearance. On the south side of Alfred Gelder Street; with the sun behind it or not shining at all; and dwarfed by the buildings around it, the Burlington looks, frankly, grim.

Not from the inside, though. Here you find a friendly local with an atmosphere that - you think, at least - must have remained unchanged over generations. In fact the pub was refurbished in 1989. The building itself dates back to 1826, when the Bridlington Tavern, as it was then called, came into being.

Don't be deceived by its appearance. Visit, and sup the excellent Bass beer you'll find within.
